Solar Battery Rebate NSW 2026: Eligibility, Discounts, Costs & How to Apply

Are you considering installing a home solar battery in NSW?

There are several forms of financial support available in 2026, but the rules can be confusing. Depending on your circumstances and system, support may include:

  • the Australian Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program;
  • the NSW Virtual Power Plant incentive;
  • a NSW Home Energy Saver zero-interest loan of up to $15,000; and
  • a separate Home Energy Saver discount of up to $4,000 for eligible households, with discount applications listed by the NSW Government as coming soon.

The important point is that these are different programs with different eligibility requirements.

At UR Needs Pty Ltd, we help NSW homeowners assess their solar generation, electricity usage, battery requirements and installation options before selecting a system.

Is There a Solar Battery Rebate in NSW in 2026?

Yes, although the term “battery rebate” is commonly used to describe several different forms of support.

The main upfront battery discount available nationally is the Australian Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program. The official program describes support of around 30% on the upfront cost of installing a range of eligible small-scale battery systems, subject to the program rules and the value created through small-scale technology certificates, or STCs.

In NSW, there is also a separate incentive for eligible battery owners who connect their battery to a Virtual Power Plant, or VPP. The NSW Government states that this incentive can be combined with the Australian Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program.

NSW has also introduced its Home Energy Saver program. As of July 2026, zero-interest loan applications are open, while the separate discount applications are still listed as coming soon.
