NSW Zero-Interest Loans for Home Batteries

NSW Zero-Interest Loans for Home Batteries

NSW Zero-Interest Loans for Home Batteries

Another important change in 2026 is the NSW Home Energy Saver program.

The NSW Government states that eligible homeowners and landlords may access a zero-interest loan of up to $15,000, repayable over up to 10 years, for eligible home energy upgrades including residential batteries and rooftop solar systems.

As of July 2026, applications for the loan are open.

Basic loan eligibility

According to the NSW Government, loan eligibility includes requirements that the applicant:

  • owns the property;
  • is an Australian citizen or permanent resident; and
  • has a combined annual taxable household income of up to $210,000.

Full eligibility and product requirements still need to be checked against the program guidelines.

How does the zero-interest loan work?

The program is delivered through participating finance providers and approved suppliers. Finance providers assess applications, provide loans and manage repayments, while approved suppliers deliver eligible upgrades.

The NSW Government's current application process is:

  1. Check your eligibility.
  2. Choose your energy upgrade.
  3. Choose a participating finance provider.
  4. Obtain quotes from approved suppliers.
  5. Complete the loan application through the selected finance provider.

Important: UR Needs should not claim that a customer can use the NSW Home Energy Saver loan through UR Needs unless UR Needs is listed as an approved supplier for the relevant participating provider.

4. NSW Home Energy Saver Discount of Up to $4,000

The NSW Government's Home Energy Saver program also provides for a separate discount of up to $4,000 toward eligible energy-saving upgrades.

As of July 2026, the NSW Government website states that applications for this discount are coming soon, rather than currently open.

Who may qualify?

The currently published basic eligibility information says an applicant must be a property owner or a tenant named on the lease and must meet one of the following conditions:

  • combined annual household income of up to $80,000; or
  • hold an eligible concession card, including certain Health Care, Pensioner or Veteran cards.

The NSW Government also states that eligible customers may be able to use both the Home Energy Saver discount and zero-interest loan. For customers seeking both for the same purchase, the current guidance recommends waiting for the discount and applying for it first.
