Solar Panels, Batteries & Installation Process

Solar Panels, Batteries & Professional Installation

A Solar Solution Designed for Your Property

At UR Needs Pty Ltd, we supply and install residential and small-business solar panel, inverter and battery systems across New South Wales.

We understand that every property is different. Before recommending a system, we consider your electricity consumption, roof or installation area, property configuration, budget, future energy requirements and any existing solar equipment.

Our objective is to recommend a system that is appropriate for your property and energy goals—not simply the largest system available.

How Our Solar Installation Process Works

1. Initial Consultation

We begin by discussing:

  • Your current electricity usage and energy bills
  • Whether the property is residential or commercial
  • Your reasons for installing solar or battery storage
  • Your available roof or installation space
  • Whether you already have solar panels or an inverter
  • Your daytime and evening electricity usage
  • Future requirements such as battery storage, electric vehicles, pool heating or increased electricity consumption
  • Your preferred budget and payment method

We do not use pressure-selling practices. Customers are given clear information and sufficient opportunity to review the proposed system before making a decision.

2. Property and Site Assessment

We request relevant property information, which may include electricity bills, photographs, switchboard details, roof information and the property address.

Where required, we arrange a physical site inspection before installation.

The assessment may consider:

  • Roof material, condition, orientation and available space
  • Potential shading from trees, buildings or other structures
  • Switchboard condition and available capacity
  • Metering and electricity network requirements
  • Suitable inverter and battery locations
  • Cable routes and access requirements
  • Existing solar equipment
  • Structural, electrical or safety concerns
  • Single-phase or three-phase electricity supply

Any potential additional work identified during the assessment will be discussed with the customer.

3. System Design and Performance Estimate

Our team prepares a site-specific system proposal based on the information available.

The proposal may include:

  • Solar panel quantity and total system capacity
  • Panel manufacturer and model
  • Inverter manufacturer, model and capacity
  • Battery manufacturer, model, usable capacity and configuration
  • Proposed panel and equipment locations
  • Estimated annual solar generation
  • Estimated electricity usage assumptions
  • Expected system limitations
  • Applicable product and workmanship warranties
  • Monitoring and communication requirements
  • Relevant network export limitations
  • Assumptions used in calculating estimated savings or payback

Solar production and financial savings are estimates only. Actual results can vary because of weather, shading, electricity consumption, electricity tariffs, system operation, export limits, equipment performance and future changes to energy prices.

4. Clear Written Quote

Before proceeding, the customer receives a written quote describing the proposed system and installation.

The quote will identify:

  • The products being supplied
  • Product model numbers and system capacity
  • Installation services included
  • Estimated installation timeframe
  • Total price
  • GST
  • Any applicable Small-scale Technology Certificate benefit
  • Deposit and payment requirements
  • Known additional charges
  • Items that are not included
  • Product warranties
  • Workmanship warranty
  • Customer and supplier responsibilities
  • Any important assumptions or limitations

We aim to ensure that customers understand the complete cost of the installation before accepting the quote.

5. Contract and Customer Approval

Once the customer decides to proceed, a written sales and installation agreement is provided.

Customers should carefully review the agreement, quotation, system design, estimated performance, warranty information and terms and conditions before signing.

Any applicable customer cancellation or cooling-off rights will be stated in the agreement.

The installation will not proceed until the required agreement and approvals have been completed.

6. Network and Installation Approvals

Depending on the system and electricity network, approval may be required from the relevant electricity distributor before installation or export can occur.

UR Needs will assist with the applicable application and connection process. Approval timeframes are controlled by the electricity distributor and may be outside our direct control.

Customers will be informed if:

  • Export limits apply
  • Additional metering work is required
  • Network approval is delayed
  • The proposed system must be modified
  • Additional distributor or retailer requirements apply

7. Installation Scheduling

After the required approvals and documentation have been completed, we agree on an installation date with the customer.

Before installation, we will confirm:

  • The installation address
  • The agreed equipment
  • Site access requirements
  • The expected arrival time
  • Any preparation required from the customer
  • Whether electricity may need to be temporarily interrupted

Installation dates may occasionally need to change because of unsafe weather, product availability, network requirements or unforeseen site conditions. Customers will be informed as soon as reasonably possible if a change is required.

8. Professional Installation

Our solar and battery installations are completed or supervised by appropriately licensed and accredited personnel.

Our nominated installation personnel include:

Mohammad Alim
Solar Accreditation Australia Accreditation: S1045961
NSW Electrical Licence: 403856C

Installation work is performed in accordance with applicable:

  • Australian Standards
  • Electrical safety requirements
  • Electricity distributor requirements
  • Manufacturer installation instructions
  • Solar Accreditation Australia requirements
  • Workplace health and safety obligations

UR Needs Pty Ltd holds NSW Contractor Licence 476356C.

9. Unexpected Site Conditions and Variations

Sometimes an issue cannot be identified until the installer attends the property or begins work.

Examples may include:

  • An unsafe or non-compliant switchboard
  • Damaged or unsuitable roofing
  • Restricted roof or ceiling access
  • Unexpected asbestos or hazardous material
  • Additional cabling or trenching
  • Metering issues
  • Structural concerns
  • A different electricity supply configuration
  • Equipment locations that do not meet safety requirements

We will explain any material issue to the customer before completing additional chargeable work.

Where a change affects the system design, equipment, installation method or price, the variation will be documented and must be accepted by the customer before the additional work proceeds.

10. Testing and Commissioning

After installation, the system is inspected, tested and commissioned.

The installer will check, as applicable:

  • Solar panel and mounting installation
  • Electrical connections and isolators
  • Inverter operation
  • Battery operation
  • Safety settings
  • System communication
  • Monitoring platform connection
  • Warning labels and signage
  • Shutdown procedures
  • Grid connection settings
  • General system performance

The system will only be placed into service when the installer is satisfied that it is safe to operate.

11. Customer Handover

At completion, we explain how to safely use and monitor the system.

The customer will receive or be given access to relevant documentation, which may include:

  • System design and equipment details
  • Product datasheets
  • Manufacturer warranty information
  • Workmanship warranty information
  • Electrical compliance documentation
  • Inverter and battery operating instructions
  • Shutdown and emergency procedures
  • Monitoring application instructions
  • Installer and accreditation details
  • Network or connection documentation
  • Maintenance recommendations
  • UR Needs contact information

Customers should retain this documentation for future maintenance, warranty or insurance purposes.

12. Monitoring and System Activation

Where the selected equipment includes online monitoring, we assist the customer with setting up the relevant application or online portal.

Internet connectivity, Wi-Fi signal strength, compatible customer devices and account access may be required for remote monitoring.

Some systems may begin generating electricity immediately after commissioning, while others may require meter changes, retailer action or final network approval before all functions are available.

We will explain any remaining activation steps to the customer.

Products and Equipment

We select solar panels, inverters and battery products that are suitable for installation in Australia and meet applicable product approval requirements at the time of installation.

The exact manufacturer, model, capacity, warranty and technical specifications will be stated in the customer’s quotation and sales agreement.

Where an agreed product becomes unavailable, we will not substitute it with a materially different product without informing the customer and obtaining their agreement.

Workmanship and Product Warranties

UR Needs provides a 10-year workmanship warranty, subject to the warranty terms contained in the customer agreement.

Solar panels, inverters, batteries and other equipment are also covered by the applicable manufacturer warranties. Warranty duration and conditions vary between manufacturers and products and will be provided with the quotation or handover documentation.

Manufacturer warranties operate in addition to any rights and consumer guarantees available under Australian Consumer Law.

Customers should contact UR Needs first if they experience an installation or product issue. We will assess the matter and assist with the applicable workmanship or manufacturer warranty process.

Maintenance and Safe Operation

Solar and battery systems generally require limited maintenance, but customers should:

  • Regularly check the monitoring system for faults or unusual performance
  • Keep the area around the inverter and battery clear
  • Avoid covering equipment or ventilation openings
  • Not open or modify electrical equipment
  • Arrange professional inspection if equipment is damaged
  • Follow the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions
  • Contact a licensed electrician if an electrical safety issue is suspected
  • Follow the supplied shutdown procedure during an emergency

Solar panels should only be inspected or cleaned where it is safe to do so. Customers should not access a roof unless appropriately trained and equipped.
